personal computer choice for Fall 2011

My daughter will be a longhorn in Fall 2011. My question is..she wants to buy a mac today and I suggested waiting until orientation. Is it better to buy it now and get familiar with the mac or wait until we go to orientation and buy through campus computer store? I thought there might be some benefits to buying it there like price and support services. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Nowadays when buying computers, always wait till the last second, unless there is a discount or something you can’t pass up.

I found the switch from win to mac to be pretty easy. The Apple store usually has a free ipod with every mac purchase during the summer on top of the student discount. I don’t know what the campus store has to offer.

Buy it from the school store! You get a really good education discount  Good choice on Mac by the way.

yes, go for mac! ALWAYS =) and @ozzy’s right… they usually give a free iPod touch when you buy your mac… around july …plus the education discount … it’s a win-win … besides tell your daughter that the new mac operating system (OSX Lion) is coming this summer… she may want to wait for that…

There are so many reasons to not buy a mac.

How do you get the education discount? And I’m reading conflicting comments on whether to buy from school store or Apple… Can anyone confirm?

well I’m from Monterrey,Mexico and we have a store on campus… but I am sure that you could either order it on the internet:

go to apple –> store –> then look for the add that says apple education store (or in the menu on the left just below iPad accessories) –> the page will ask you for your school name or zip code and then you choose to buy…

or you can go to an apple store and an apple genius (the guys working there) may be able to do you the discount with an ID … of this i’m not completely sure as I don’t work there… =P

The education discount is not thaaaat significant (about 50 - 200 dlls), the good deal is when you receive something else such as an iPod touch =)
