Is it okay to write the personal essay about some really BIG EC that I led or is that too common and boring?

What's most important in personal essays is not the exact subject, but how it's written, particularly what the essay displays about your thinking, writing and character.

That also is why how much time, thought and revision one puts into the essay is more important than is the subject.

The essay should show something about you. It is not a writing contest. They are looking primarily for content and to get a feel for you as a person. You want to come across as being unique.

You can show something about yourself by writing about how you feel about some important issue in the world, or about some life changing event in your life. There are a list of possible essay topics on the application. Normally, one of the possible topics is open ended and you can write about anything you want.

Writing about your EC's may be the most common essay topic, and the topic probably is boring after you've read a few thousand essays. The EC's topic is also the safest topic. I would say it depends on the EC's and on what else you have to write about. There is nothing wrong with writing on EC's, but make it interesting and relate it to what you want to achieve in life.

If it is going to be an exciting and unusual essay then that will be a great thing for you to write about. But if it is going to be a list of reasons why you're passionate about NHS or editing your school newspaper or something along those lines... probably not such a great idea.
