I had a very low housing number and my mom made me cancel my housing contract. She was very nasty about the whole thing and forced me to cancel it. She said that I didn't know what I was doing and I couldn't afford to live there.

I turned 17 last month so I can't drive (till nov.) or do certain things because of my age so I have to leave near FSU or an FSU bus stop. All of the reviews I am reading are horror stories. Excessive noise because of the bars and homeless people, management fining for anything and everything, utility bills increasing, roaches, mold, and broken down appliances. BTW she only wanted me to live in a 1/1. My budget (with loans) is in the $500s -_-

I wasn't ready for all of this and apparently all she has to say is "what can you do about it now? We already canceled the contract. Are you just not gonna go to school?"

I'm just looking for some advice on what to do. I'm tired of the sarcastic and unapologetic remarks I am getting right now. I'd just like help please.

I’m so sorry :(… try finding a friend or someone you can trust who you can pay to give you rides… Or you can live within walking distance of FSU. When I was visiting there I saw some housing that practically looked on campus. (The University Village said they were all full, but there’s probably someone trying to sell their lease.) I know absolutely nothing about sororities and don’t plan on joining one, but maybe you can get housing that way?

Live along an FSU bus route and you’ll be fine. I lived off campus one year without a car and I didn’t mind. The FSU buses come every 15 minutes and you’ll probably be able to walk to a lot of places.

Are you looking for a 1/1 with or without roommates? A 1/1 without roommates for $500 might be hard to find. If you want a 1/1 in a 2/2, 3/3 or 4/4 you should be able to find a nice apartment for that price.

Parents always freak out about housing. They think if you don’t get an apartment far in advance you’ll be homeless. That’s not the case. There are always apartments open year round.

Thanks for the advice. I just took a look at University Village and it looks nice. If it’s full for the fall, does that also mean that they don’t have openings in the summer of '11? I’m not sure if that’s a stupid question but I’ll give them a call.

I talked to my mom and explained to her that I have no choice but to get roommates at this point. I guess I wouldn’t mind a 4/4.

I’m confused as to why a mother of a 17-year-old would want her daughter to live off campus. And I also didn’t think it was that easy to cancel a housing contract. Is this for summer or fall?

I canceled a housing contract for both summer and fall. All I did was email them. It was so easy that it seems like if you know someones first and last name, you can cancel their housing contract.

I understand that my mom was wrong for making me cancel the housing contract but I also understand that I can’t afford them… Not even smith hall. We are taking out the max amount of loans and she’s trying her best to help me with them.
