living in a dorm means very little privacy, especially if there are only public toilets. where do people shave?
not just the face; even armpits etc.
theres the problem of running water and clogged drains.
any comments from current college students?

Hmm good question. any current student wanna shed some light?

I'm not in college yet, but my experience from boarding school is that it is best done in the afternoon or early evening after classes if you have suite or communal bathrooms.

You'll get used to the lack of privacy in community restrooms or even those in suites. Otherwise, just handle your "business" during times when there is minimal activity, i.e. late at night...or better yet, go right after the school staff cleans the restroom.

I remember even going to shower and shave on another floor when the restroom on my floor was particularly nasty.

Try to avoid the early morning rush (6:30 - 9:00 a.m.) and 1 hour after dinner, especially when beans, huevos rancheros, "mystery meat," etc. were on the menu.

haha does that really go through in just one hour?

welcome to college food. (yes)

you haven't really answered my question. i don't just mean shaving your face, i mean trimming and shaving other areas, mentioning whose names will get me banned. this goes out to both guys and girls. it yould be pretty scarring to walk in on that in a communal bathroom. how do you deal with that?

It's not a big deal with girls unless they're really immature and/or religious fanatics. Some might even ask for tips. Neosporin rocks! ;)

It is scarring to see somebody shaving? I think it would only be scarring if you walked into somebody that was shaving.

i would think you would do that in the shower

i'm talking about shaving in the private areas. it would be scary to walk in on something like that.

Dontbanme, why can't you do it in the shower. That's how I've always done it, even in my own home. And if you've practiced enough, then you know how to do it quickly and efficiently. And there is no point in shaving pubic areas unless you're showing things off. So just bring a scissors in there and trim it.

I don't see whats wrong in shaving your legs around girls, esp. if you're neat about it.

Shaving armpits is funny. I would do that in the shower, as well because if I saw someone shaving their armpit, I think I would atleast 'lol' a bit. I guess I'm immature.

XD what are they going to do if the drain clogs (which those industrial strength ones will not)....compare DNA in the hair?

I just finished my freshman year and I just shaved my armpits and stuff in the shower. Sometimes I shaved my legs in the room cuz I have an electric razor too.

i really dont get the point of this post. how is it any different from home? shave in the shower. if you get walked in on, get over it.

LOL, natrlsurf.
I've lived in a dorm for high school and people have always just done it in the shower. Don't think it should be that much of a concern in college; hair itself (e.g. girls with long hair) would clog more than body hair, would it not? And it's true there might be less privacy, but how often does walking in on someone happen?

I don't understand this whole thing.. can't you just lock the door?

Lock the door? That is what I was thinking. I've lived in two different dorms. One had a bathroom for every 6 students. One shower with a door (the shower area was pretty large). The second dorm had 4 showers for an entire floor. Showers had curtains and a stall (similar to the toilet stalls) with a lockable door. My privacy was never invaded. That usually happens with pranks.

I stayed in a dorm over the summer. and it had a communal bathroom. Shave in the shower, cause one they have stalls with curtians and locks ( well the one i stayed at did) please don't shave in the sink thats nasty, and make sure you get your hair off the shower floor i hate that.. i hate it hate it

Yea I stayed in a dorm last summer--where flip flops or something when there is only 1 bathroom per floor in the shower... :)
