personal statement and field of study

I just finished a first draft of personal statement. I'm applying to bioengineering program and I specified that I want to focus on neuroscience (my major is electrical engineering). My main problem is that I'm not completely sure if that is exactly what I want to do. I might want to study DNA or protein instead but I don't know enough about those areas to make any decisions. I feel like I've narrowed my options too much in my personal statement.

Do people expect you to research what you specified in personal statement (ie. not deviate from original intentions)? I know most programs expose first year grad students to various researches and let them decide what they want to do.

No, no one will hold you to what you said in your statement.

I've met people who apparently said something or other in their personal statement but then came to grad school not knowing what to focus on specifically. One person in particular comes to mind. She spend her first year trying to decide what her focus should be for her M.S. Now she's finishing up her Ph.D.

yeah admissions groups just want to see that you are focused and driven. no one will hold you to your personal statement. i had to write three seperate PS for 3 different areas of concentration and i am not 100% sure that any of the research topics i identified are what i really want to research.

No one has even mentioned my personal statement since I arrived at Grad school
