Once again, I seem to be in dire need of Canadian assistance! Please can someone advise me as to how to go about writing a personal statement for Canadian universities - more specifically the PS for UBC. Links to examples would be great also. I have no idea where to start, the process is very different from that of the American system. Any advice???

IHS - Generally you don't need one for Canadian universities but for UBC you do. (Got prospectus from them.)

Botsboy - I wrote a personal statement for UK universities a year ago, but it's extremely...stupid. It's different from internationals and UK students. My GC told me to write about how I would handle learning in an English-medium university and why I chose the UK. It was sent to 6 different universities so it was quite general.

I don't know how long the PS has to be. I'd say let it be a "Why UBC" and "why my major" essay entertwined.

Anyway. I'm not too sure how long the essay has to be. All I know is that ALL Canadian University essays are SUPER DUPER BORING> what a snore. "What are you interested in, your reasons for applying and why did you choose _____?"

That's like the Brown application essay. At least Brown lets you write about something else near the end. Anyway, for my Brown essay, which was pretty much the same topic, I wrote over 300 words. I think as long as you keep it anywhere from 300-500, it'll be okay.

Just to make sure though, e-mail them or call them.
