<p>I posted this in the essay section but so far noone has answered so I thought I would try here. Is the Personal Statement and the Common Application Essay the same thing?</p>

<p>Take a look at the Common Application by going to commonapp.org and download the application (student form). You’ll see that the Common Application Essay can be based on one of 6 prompts–one of which is “topic of your choice.”</p>
<p>Check the prompt for Personal Statement. I would bet that you’d be able to use the same essay for both Personal Statement and Common Application Essay (with little or no finagling).</p>

<p>Yes, it is the same thing. But the common app also usually requires a second, shorter essay, about a meaningful EC.</p>
