Personal Statement Confusion

I started writing my personal statement a few days ago for the 2nd prompt.

"Tell us about a personal quality, talent, accomplishment, contribution or experience that is important to you. What about this quality or accomplishment makes you proud and how does it relate to the person you are?"

I started writing about my experience with cancer but it seemed so mundane and overused :/ Someone suggested I write about my ability to funny.

I contemplated it and decided to write about it but as I was showing my peers a rough draft of an intro, or my idea of a topic, they said it sounded rather boastful and I should avoid writing about it. I'm at a standstill right now and I'm just so nervous...

If anyone could give me advice whether I should stick with the "funny thing" or not, I'd be happy to hear. I have my introduction for the essay if anyone would like to read it I guess.

Thank you so much~!

Do you already talk about having cancer in your first prompt? If so, then another topic is better for the second one. Otherwise it seems okay, just don’t say cliched things!

It seems like it would be hard to strike a good balance in an essay talking about how funny you are but the essay does allow you to be pleased about yourself. Talking about what it does for you or how it serves you or others could be one angle. If you sound too boastful, then do some editing. Or pick another topic.
