Is 621 words too much for the long essay? If so, what word limit range should I shoot for?

621 is waaay too long

range: +/- 4 words. they want to see if you can follow directions.

Anyone else?

They actually want it to be exactly 600/200...but because different word programs consider different things "words", they have to give a slight +/-

where did you get that from??? that's kinda absurd(no offense). they're not really going to judge your application on your word limit.
i think you can go over 50 words combined before it cuts you off on the application.

anyone else?

Ehh...probably won't matter much, but it's really not that hard to cut down a few words.

actually, cutting down 21 words, is like cutting down two sentences, half a paragraph, an essay w/o an intro or conclusion
so it's hard.

I know how you feel

I had to go from 817 words to 621. Now that's what I call hard work!

i love to word trim essays.

haha, I went from 860 to 600ish
studying stud: are you triming your stanford essay too?

Yes, I trimmed my Stanford long essay.
