<p>I am splitting my personal statement word allocation 600/400. I was wondering, for the shorter one, I am doing prompt 1, since it is 400 words is there any concrete way to write these in terms of how many paragraphs, etc?</p>
<p>Try to make it flow. It should be just like writing any other college essay (maybe more important haha). Use your superb English skills. My first one by the way is also 400 words and I have it split into 5 paragraphs, with the thesis in the beginning and end.</p>
<p>I just finished the tentative drafts, and cut down the general one to 456 words (4 paragraphs), and 572 for the major specific one (5 paragraphs), both with an intro and conclusion.</p>
<p>Though, both combined are 1028 words -I know the application says they can be close to 1000, but they give the example of 1012. Should I try cutting it down a bit more?</p>
<p>did they extend the word count? i applied for winter in the summer and they said no more than a 1000 words and one of the essays should be 600 and the other 2 200, mine was like 625, 185 190, but for the 600 one you can't go over 630 words</p>
<p>They switched the personal statements around, now there are only two, and you have 1000 words to assign as you like, as long as one doesn't go under 250 words.</p>
<p>Unless you are already being as succinct as possible, I would assume you can probably find ways to shorten the 1028 words which will also improve the essays. However, writing is harder for me then anything else, and I generally don't do very well when it comes to essays, so I'm hardly the one to be giving out this kind of advice. You have a month though, so if you show them to others I'm sure you can find some way to shorten them a bit if for no other reason then to be on the safe side.</p>
<p>And I have to say, I really approve of the changes they made to the personal statements. Although that isn't to say I'm any less clueless one what to write this year then I was with last year's.</p>

<p>Your personal statement 1000 word count can be allocated any which way you want except both prompt one and two must be at a minimum of 250 words each.</p>
<p>looks like they changed the format a little for fall 08 than from winter 08, now its only 2 prompts with a max about 1012 words and they both have to be at least 250 words, and the 3rd prompt question from winter now doesn't seem to be part of the personal statement, They also made prompt number 2 more specific.</p>
