“Tell us about the academic areas which interest you most and your reasons for applying to Brown.”

What if you don’t know what you want your concentration to be? Besides from talkign about the open curriculum for 1500 characters, what can I do? I’m completely stumped.

they aren’t asking you about your concentration here, they just want to know what sparks your interest. What academic areas intrigue you? What makes brown the right place for you? Have you visited? If so you can tie in some personal experiences, maybe a click moment where you realized it was perfect for you.

So talking about the moment that I realized that Brown was for me - a.k.a. when I saw the “Brown Supports Peaceful Protests in Burma” table on the main green - wouldn’t be completely off base?

I don’t know… It is 1500 characters, so maybe I could somehow get from my undecided concentration to my love for the open curriculum to the “Brown Supports Peaceful Protests in Burma” thing?

would it be a bad idea to only focus on my academic interests and the Open Curriculum? It is only 1500 characters, so I don’t want to only briefly touch on a number of things, but I also don’t want to sound like I only know about one thing. :P

(while i’m at it, is it ‘Open’ or ‘New’? On the website it says ‘New’ but I have often heard ‘Open’)

Many people call it the “New” curriculum, but since it was started in 1969 it’s hardly new any more. That’s why some people call it the “open” curriculum. They’ll know what you are talking about.

i talked about what academic areas i was interested in and why i was intersted in them. also, i mentioned how brown would allow me to pursue these areas at a higher level.
