What is the personal statement? Which schools require it and what are you supposed to discuss?

bump...does anyone know?

Well, the Common Application does not have a "Personal Statement," (250-500 words) it has a "Personal Essay" in which you get to choose a topic out of 6 options (the 6th one being "Topic of your choice."). On the Common Application, you are required to write a "Short Answer" (150 words or fewer) in which you have to describe which one of your activities has been most meaningful to you.

Other colleges have different requirements for essays - some of which will ask you to write a "Personal Statement" - but don't worry, they will probably be specific about what they want you to write about (If not, why not call their admissions office?). Quinnipiac University, for instance does have a "Personal Statement" and it specifies you to: "Share a characteristic you possess that you consider a strength and how it will help you achieve success at Quinnipiac University."

Don't worry, most applications are pretty specific about what they want from you... when in doubt, call them up and ask someone from admissions - don't ever be afraid of asking questions!! :-)
