Personal statement

Not to sound clueless but this is the only college I've applied to that asks for a "personal statement." If I put my common app essay should I be good? Or do I need to do something else? To me it seems like they just want me to describe myself which I probably wouldn't be able to do without sounding awkward...help anyone?

I don’t remember the exact wording for the Personal Statement, but you want to tell them something about yourself that they wouldn’t know from your application. Something that shows a different aspect of yourself. My son wrote about Strength of Character and how he helped our neighbors evacuate when our town flooded…even though he had a broken neck, he was climbing in windows and rescuing pets and saving valuables. . Also don’t neglect the “optional” Why Tulane essay.

I would only add that you should not worry about sounding awkward in describing yourself or something you have done. You need to learn to talk about yourself for job interviews, etc. anyway. It is just a matter of finding the right tone that illustrates accomplishments, yet doesn’t sound like bragging or that it is all about you.
