What do most people who apply choose to write their essay about and is their a direction that the admissions officers are looking for your essay to go? thanks alot im having trouble thinking about what to write about

The direction: Write a CONCISE statement with any ADDITIONAL information that is IMPORTANT to convey to the admissions committee. Information that may be important might include your aspirations, work experience, creative talents, factors affecting your academic record, or why you are applying to UW–Madison.

Your other parts of the application already tell a lot of things about you: classes you have taken, GPA, SAT/ACT, ECs, awards, LCs, personal traits etc. If none of those needs further explanation, then use the statement to tell the adcom ADDITIONAL and IMPORTANT aspect of you. A often helpful discussion is your aspiration and why. Don't make things up. It is perfectly OK if you are not sure. Use the statement to tell why you think Wisconsin can help you figuring it out. Try looking at the student clubs, on-going researches, academic programs and other University resources to see if any of those truly interests you. Tell adcom about them and why.

The Wisconsin admission process is not designed to keep people out. Rather, it wants to make sure the admitted students are a good fit and will have the best chance to succeed in Wisconsin.
