Personal Statement

Im not sure i understand what a "Personal statement" is supposed to be. Can anyone help me? And also i was wondering if it can be longer then 1 page.
thanks

IMO, it is really whatever you want to tell the school about yourself. My son just used the larger essay that he had written for the common app. He might have tweeked it a bit, but I don't recall that he did for JMU. Good luck!

If you have further questions about it, you can call the admissions office and speak with an admissions counselor about it.

can it be larger then 1 page long?

Sorry, but it has been 2 years since my son applied. I really don't know. I suggest that you call them.

If they are asking for a one page Personal Statement, I would try to stick to that. This does not mean that your first draft need be one page.... write whaat you want to say about yourself, then set it aside for a day or two. Go back and edit and see how you can say what you are trying to say more succinctly.

Good Luck!

The admission officers take note to people who follow the directions so you can give them a great impression by following the directions. I applied last year and I wrote why I would be a great asset to JMU. They liked it because I got in. Don't do it all in one day, do some brainstorming and collect all your thoughts in a cohesive and syntactical paper free of grammar and mechanical mistakes. Let a couple people read it and get their impressions too. It never hurts. The best advice anyone can give to you is to be true to yourself and write what you truly want to write about. Good luck.
