I'm not really sure what to write in this area. Should it be an essay? Or is it only supposed to be a few sentences long?

Can I write about pretty much anything?

Can I write about pretty much anything?

Your personal statement should be an essay - definitely not a couple sentences. Out of all the schools I’m applying to Penn State is the only one that doesn’t require a personal statement, but it would be in your best interest to submit one. Talk about your achievements, maybe a certain volunteer experience that affected you, a trip that taught you something about yourself. Make it personal and show Penn State why they should accept you.

The prompt is “Please tell us something about yourself, your experiences, or activities that you believe would reflect positively on your ability to succeed at Penn State. This is your opportunity to tell us something about yourself that is not already reflected in your application or high school record.”

So basically do just that. You can write about anything as long as it’s about yourself, your experiences, or your activities. Make sure it’s a well-written essay and get it edited by a parent, counselor, english teacher, or someone else.
