Personal Statements different?

I'm looking to apply to schools in the UK, and people have been telling me that they are looking for different things for their personal statement. They said in the US, they look more for EC's, while in the UK they want you to talk more about academics. Is this true?

In your PS they usually want 75% about academic skills and interests and 25% related to EC's and non-academic activities.

In my personal statement, I wrote mostly about a specific activity and tied it into academics. They want to see something that you're passionate about, whether that is a specific academic area or a specific activity. Just make sure it shows what is important to you.

For UK personal statements you should talk about why you want to major in whatever field you plan on studying. From what I've gathered, it should be much more straight-forward and to the point than American college essays. Beautiful, vivid descriptions are not expected..
