Also known as the college essay, perhaps one of the most important factors in the application process. Now, I'm a pretty good writer, but I have absolutely no idea what to write about. The suggestions in both the Columbia and Common Apps are so open ended.

What are you (my fellow rising seniors) planning on writing about?

I've been considering writing about:
A- My volunteering with the local ambulance corps. (I've only been on one call, though, and won't start EMT training until September.)
B- My trip to Israel. (Although I don't know how impressed adcoms will be that one of my favorite parts was Gadna and learning how to shoot an M-16.)
C- ???

I'm freeloading off of UChicago's essay topic.

The Cartesian coordinate system is a popular method of representing real numbers and is the bane of eighth graders everywhere. Since its introduction by Descartes in 1637, this means of visually characterizing mathematical values has swept the globe, earning a significant role in branches of mathematics such as algebra, geometry, and calculus. Describe yourself as a point or series of points on this axial arrangement. If you are a function, what are you? In which quadrants do you lie? Are x and y enough for you, or do you warrant some love from the z-axis? Be sure to include your domain, range, derivative, and asymptotes, should any apply. Your possibilities are positively and negatively unbounded.

A. Chaos/Order and how it confuses me.
B. My passion for history.
C. Going from a "godless" communist country to live in the Holy Land for 4 years.

And I hate the UChicago prompts. They make me feel pressured to think like somebody who takes LSD 7 hours a day.

I dont like the UChicago prompts either...
My writings are the best when I'm freewriting, not thinking about x's and y's and complicated asymptotes and whatnot.

My personal statement has a really weird style. Ok i tried typing the general outline out but I had to backspace it all because it's so complicated lol

LOL, yeah I'm glad I'm not applying to UChi...I wouldn't know where to start with that prompt! Anyway, I'm thinking about writing about going to my new school and the music I listen to and how they are related.
