Personal Statements

What exactly do you write in personal statements? Your classes, your home life, your school life?

And how exactly do you organize it?
ie; would you write it like really straightforward? --> My name is _____ and I am from , I have a passion in _, etc.
Or would it be better to fancy it up?

And this may sound stupid... but do I begin saying who I am and where I am from?

I tried doing a google search but that above question ^ I could not find the answer for.

What exactly do you mean by personal statement? The Common App’s main essay? These can be very creative, and certainly more interesting than the cookie cutter example you provided. Try the essay forum.

yea whats the personal statement?

Are you talking about the UC personal statement? You might have wanted to specify.
In any case, here’s some guidelines for that: [University of California - Admissions](http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/apply/how_apply/personal_statement.html)

Sorry for not specifying. It’s for a non-commonapp school and it asked me to define who I am (morals, values, work, personality, goals, etc) in 250 words or less.

I’m not sure how to go about starting it.

i would say to choose a moment in your life (an event, idea, etc) that made you realize something and that something has become a major defining factor of who you are today. For example, the first time you did ____ or realized ____ and it has shaped you today in this way ____. Choose one or two really meaningful things rather than listing everything about you briefly.

Or you can choose one thing that’s REALLY important to you and elaborate on it…
