I'd love to go to school in New York and probably will want to attend a LAC, though I'm still not sure. According to my search, there are a boatload of great LACs in NY, but they all seem similar. Can someone give me any info about the following institutions, their personalities and other info that might distinguish them from one another?

Bard
Sarah Lawrence
Barnard
Colgate
Vassar
Hamilton
Skidmore

Any others worth mentioning?

So far, Bard/SLC/Barnard/Skidmore all seem very similar. Colgate/Hamilton/Vassar seem more Greek-life-heavy and athletic?

Yeah, I’m leaning toward SLC and Barnard as my no. 1 choices right now because I’d prefer to live in the heart of the city. But besides those two, which is the closest to the city? Thanks for the info so far!

I have visited many of these schools with one of my two oldest and one of the biggest differences is the location … your preference for about location would greatly cull the list. For example,

Colgate has a beautiful traditional campus in a tiny town that is not really close to substantial cities so is very campus centric

Barnard is in Manhattan and has a very-very small campus and social life is often very intertwined with NYC.

My first reaction would be it would be odd for anyone to have both these schools at the top of their list.

That’s the thing…Both sound kinda appealing in their own way. I think I would prefer the NYC social life feel, but it’s hard to know until I actually get to college. :/
