Personality issue

This might be a rather superfluous question, but I tend to be @nal...

i have a shy personality, occasionally having trouble starting conversation. i can make friends with only certain types of individuals, and i'm afraid this will deter me from a career in medicine. right now, I am following premed requirements, but I haven't completely discounted the possibility of NOT going to medical school (I'm still looking to explore research, volunteering, etc) but that's the thing: volunteering. When i volunteered before, I was shy, and I do think it made me shy away and become introverted.

If I want to become an MD, is this a problem I must SERIOUSLY work on: my communication and social skills? or should I take it easy and not force anything?
in summary, I'm afraid that I don't have an MD's 'personality,' whatever that may be.

this will deter you in any competitive career!

absolutely force it! this is something that has nothing to do with being a doctor or going to med school…good social/professional skills are essential no matter what career you want to pursue

I have the same problem. :(

Sad and unfortunate truth for shy people like us.

it’s not hard. it’s all about getting out of your comfort zone. you think you can only be friends w/ certain individuals, but if you tried harder im sure you could branch out!

Some people are naturally so social that they just seem like they have no comfort zone.

try working on it…
