Personality

Out of curiosity, how much does overall personality count towards admissions? Whether into a university or getting a scholarship, do you think they care a lot about personality? And where should the personality come out (essays, interviews, etc.)?

How much does overall personality count towards getting into a college or getting a scholarship? Would colleges rather someone with a cool personality than a pretty bleak person? And where should it come out?

From what I’ve heard, it matters more for getting into the most elite colleges (where it differentiates people who generally all have great grades, standardized test scores, and extracurriculars) and for getting scholarships than for getting into most colleges.

Personality comes out pretty much from the entire application. Your courses, grades and test scores show what type of student you are i.e how good you are at the material, how much you are willing to challenge yourself, how much you dedicate yourself to your studies. The teacher recommendations further show the type of student you are in class, how you behave and interact with others and also your own personal qualities. Few schools have interviews and only a handful have actually admissions interviews (alumni interviews really dont carry much weight); interviews usually don’t carry much weight anyway but if there if you possess and outstanding personal quality(ies) than that will show. And then there are the essays of course which show in part your writing style, how you may have developed as a person and your passion, interests, and personal values.
