Personalized Information Packet

Hey guys,

I wanted to start this thread for people to share the Financial Aids Packages they are receiving from Fordham (along with voluntary financial & merit stats). Also to share the run around I have been getting from Fordham's Student Financial Service about my packet.

I filed my FAFSA with Fordham's Early Admit Student Financial Aid Service in late December. They said that once the FAFSA was released January 1st they would file it for me. They said that it would take about 7-10 business days (from the day I spoke to them) for me to receive a Personalized Information Packet. A few days into January I received an email saying my FAFSA was not complete and I needed to sign it with my PIN. So I did and on January 8th I got an email from SFAS saying the FAFSA was completed and sent into the Federal Processor. When the 10 business days from the time I spoke to them was up I called them and they said I would receive the Packet 7-10 days from JANUARY 8th. BUT, on January 11th I got an email saying I would receive the packet 3-10 DAYS from January 11th. So, 10 Business days from the 8th and 10 Days from the 11th is tomorrow the 21st. I will be anxious all day and hope I recieve this Packet tomorrow.

Has anyone else had this problem?????

Gabelli,
I went through a nearly identical experience except I did receive the packet. The packet, which was a couple page color brochure, contained the cost of attendance figure of about $60k and then an estimate of financial aid including gifts/grants and loans. According to Fordham, we have an EFC of about $36K. Based on this EFC figure, the estimate from Fordham would meet our need, at least as Fordham calculates our need. (Although I don’t consider providing loans to be meeting need, but that’s a different discussion.)

Thus far I am finding this FA process with Fordham (and other colleges, though not all) to be very opaque. From my perspective the only dollar figure that has any meaning is cost of attendance less grants/gifts/scholarships= our out of pocket costs. Once we have that figure, then we can compare apples to apples and make decisions about loans. So far, I don’t have enough information to do that.

I should add statistically my child is about in the middle of the pack for Fordham. ACT=28, unweighted GPA=3.82.

Standish,

Thanks so much for your reply! It somewhat comforts me that I am not the only one going through this torture. I came home today, ran to the mailbox, and nothing. Right now I am on the phone with them and they are saying I should have received the packet and they are going to try to send another packet. Yet again I am being told I will receive the packet within 7-10 BUSINESS DAY :0!! My packet was “lost in the mail”.
