Hey, I'm wondering if anyone else from Yale 2014 got their app decision for Perspectives back today? Just curious.

I got rejected, so I'm feeling a bit iffy right now ... is there any way I can still be a part of the program? I know I don't have much research experience but yeah. I really think it would be a good experience for me ... thanks!

Me too. It sounds like we could still sit in on lectures and/or form our own discussion group, and there are lots of other ways to get into research at Yale.

I think you can try to get in once school starts. Go on the first day and speak to the professors in charge/director.

Honestly though, PSE is not as cool as it sounds. If you’re truly not interested in the general scientific field, then there’s absolutely no point in you taking the class. It’ll be a waste of time. In terms of research support, there are PLENTY of opportunities to do research at Yale (and get paid for it) without having to do Perspectives. Overall, you should almost be happy you didn’t get in. (Only thing is that PSE is supposed to be an easy A…)

I also received the rejection this morning Oh well. I might try to get a spot once semester starts. Otherwise I’ll just cross my fingers and aim for an interesting freshman seminar :)

I would second what drbigboy said, unless you are very sure that you will very likely go into, say, a physics or chemistry PhD program after college. Otherwise, PSE really does not give you much, IMHO. A more focused/solid science course is more likely what you need in the first few years in college. (DS was actually in PSE many years ago. It was called PoS then.) The lecture part may be fine, but the discussion part could be quite lame. Unless the research area of the professor who leads the discussion group in that week happens to be closely related to the topic to be discussed, it is often a scene like “a blind leading a blind” as some topic is so advanced and specialized.

Yeah, I’m not upset and I don’t think I’m going to pursue it. I’d probably be happier taking a more biology-oriented freshman seminar anyway, and I applied to PSE mainly at my mom’s urging lol.
