I need people who've actually done Perspectives on Science to tell me their experiences: the good, the bad, the ugly. (Yea or Nay...)

From what I've read, it seems the summer research opportunity is well worth the credit. Yes? (Because I adore summer research opportunities.) Would it be easy not to do it but still obtain a similar opportunity?

I'll give you besitos if you use the word "opportunity" more times than I did.

come on, i know you're out there. especially you, edcito. although, i don't know if you're still checking this...

Perspectives on Science was a great program.

The class itself is easy (a half credit each semester). The lectures are really fascinating (you actually end up learning a lot about how to do a good science presentation), the discussions can be informative and entertaining (although it depends on your facilitator) and you get a chance to see the latest research being conducted at Yale.

Also, just randomly, I ended up learning a lot about how to read science papers.

The research funds are very nice. We got $3700 this year which has to cover housing and food for 10 weeks. Most students are cutting a profit.....

I think perspectives students also appreciated the strong sense of community--there is a close circle of friends within the group and this summer we've had a variety of events with other perspectives students (hike to East Rock, board game night, birthday party).

To be honest, there are a ton of opportunities for summer research if you don't get into perspectives. STARS, HHMI Future Scientists, Dean's Research Fellowship.....the list goes on (check http://www.yale.edu/yser)

Hope this helps.

iexpressgfp speaks the truth. i would definitely do it again if given the choice.

your sn gave it away, big one. nice post in the premed forum.

come here and i'll give you a besito
