As an incoming student who does not want to take much Philosophy or Theology, I’m interested in one of these classes. What’s the difference between the two? Is one worth taking over the other? Should I put them off until sophomore year or later? Any tips or experience would be good.

pulse requires 12 hours of service a week, which can be a lot to handle with other classes and things. Perspectives is basically all freshman and gets your philosophy and theology requirements out of the way all at once. I’d day that thats the way to go. There are some really great perspectives professors and the classes get really close with each other. Definitely get your core requirements out of the way sooner than later. I personally took philosophy and theology separate, (2 semesters of philosophy freshman year and then 2 semesters of theology sophomore year), so thats another option for fulfilling your core. But if I were you I’d choose perspectives for sure, unless you are really interested in doing service.

My D did PULSE and loved it. Since PULSE requires services hours, the academic portion of the double class is reduced. (It’s not two full classes worth of readin’/writin’ + 10 services hours.)

The services looks good on the resume, too, and depending on your career interests…
