Persuing my Passion, or my like and desires.....

I really want to be an Airline Pilot. Planes just interest me, and I really can't explain it. No one in my family but my uncle have ever been involved with flying. I already know most of the systems and devices on planes, buttons, how they fly, and how to read the screens. I play FSX a lot and fly jets on there as a Pilot would for fun. I enjoy watching planes take off from airports too because it gives me that special feeling. Fly to KDFW from KSFO etc... But the benefits don't outweigh the negatives for me. And I have a 4.3GPA and want to do the best thing to help me and my family out.

On the other hand, I could be an Anesthesiologist. Me and my close friend are both wanting to pursue this career together. I actually like it, and stay after school a lot of times talking to the Allied Health teacher about it. I like it because I could help support my parents, and I could have a great retirement fund allowing me to travel every few months to other Countries. I haven't ever really traveled anywhere, and I am a car enthusiast who would enjoy being able to buy my dream car, and restore my 1st car to factory line condition.

Any advice is great, as long as it isn't negative and rude I'm fine.

Thanks!

What exactly do you want advice on? You seem to have 2 great options for you, so just don’t limit yourself right now. I’m assuming you’re in high school right now, so there’s absolutely no reason to decide what you want to do with your life right now. It seems like you have a good idea of what you’re interested in, so you should pursue everything that interests you until there’s a real reason to choose one thing.

Got my transcript yesterday, but I’m only a Sophomore soon to be Junior. I have a 4.02 GPA as of now (Will go up significantly do to Honors and AP next year). But my class rank is #38 of 336 which is not in the top 5%. My friend has a 4.3 and she is #4. So it is unbelievable that .3 points could kill my chances of being accepted.

And I was wanting advice as to what you would do and why given my position. I am going to try and get accepted to Duke university in NC for Medical, or UNC. Because I have talked to them and they will pay for all 8yrs of Medical school because I meet the requirements for a full ride “IF” I get accepted. Also they are really good schools for that field. My family is all UNC fans, meaning that they would prefer me going to UNC opposed to Duke given the rivalry between the two. But I could care less about which one I go to. As long as I get what I need education-wise I am fine.

If I am not accepted after HS. I would go into Community College for Pre-Med if possible, and transfer into UNC or Duke because that would make it easier for me to get accepted.

With being a Pilot I would go to Embry-Riddle in Daytona Beach, FL. I’ve planned out BOTH paths already. Except I am very unsure of what calsses I take to become an Anesthesiologist and whatnot.

Bump, bump, bump :)

That’s weird, I am just like that. I don’t get too excited about a lot of things, but my heart skips a beat when I see a huge 757 flying over the highway and hearing the rumbling of the engines. Something in me comes alive and I cannot explain it.

^ Become a pilot. Do what you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life.
