We have Figo which we purchased through Costco. This is the first time we have had pet insurance. We bought the policy soon after we got our dog as a puppy so no concern about preexisting conditions. Our policy doesn’t include routine care. I can’t recall what we pay but it’s not huge.
Years ago when insurance companies could exclude conditions I got a letter Excluding UTI and anything to do with the urinary tract. So call that it’s no longer allowed.
I’m in the market for our two-year-old. So far I’ve looked at:
Nationwide for $65.43/month; $10,000 annual max; $250 deductible; 70% reimbursement; does not cover preventive or routine care; does cover office visit fee or exam fee
Healthy Paws for $43.90 per month; no annual max; $250 deductible; 80% reimbursement; does not cover preventive or routine care; does not cover office visit fee or exam fee
Figo through Costco for $61.34 per month (PLUS $2 PER MONTH FEE FOR CREDIT CARD PAYMENTS, WHICH PISSES ME OFF); unlimited annual coverage; $250 deductible; 80% reimbursement; does not cover preventive or routine care; does cover vet exams for illness or injury
Nationwide is the most expensive and provides the least coverage. Healthy Paws doesn’t offer the opportunity to add their exclusions with an additional premium. I think I’m going to go with Figo through Costco. Does anyone have an opinion or any observations??
No one?? I thought we were all such an opinionated bunch!
I currently have Nationwide and next dog adoption I will look for something different. One of my dogs just had ACL surgery- she had a complete tear. It cost all in (surgery, pre and post visit about $4800) All in Nationwide only covered $1360. The surgical center told be they see some plans cover 90% of the surgery. It is crazy- but we had to do it. The girl at the surgical center told me the name of the insurance that she sees covers the highest cost- and since I’m not in the market, I forgot the name. I will call and ask and report back.
Thanks. That Nationwide reimbursement doesn’t sound great, even taking into account a deductible.
