Pet peeve!

I got a 2320 on the June SAT, and a 2350 superscored. Thus far most of the people I've talked to (including classmates and family) have told me that with this score, I can "go to any school I want". While I'm very pleased with my scores, comments like these annoy me. A lot. It seems most people think that if you have a good SAT score, you will be set, regardless of what types of schools you're applying to >.<

Sorry, just had to get it out there ;) Does anyone have similar experiences?

I agree as well. My family and friends tell me the same thing and it gets annoying. I also got 2320 on the SAT and 2330 superscored. Oh wait, it’s you fledgeling! Hi!

^ Hello to you too  I have a feeling I’ve aimed this thread at only high scoring people… ;)

A good SAT score cannot get you in any school you want. And for many places, 2320 is not a particularly outstanding score.

^ umm lidusha, the OP knows that and is just commenting on how family and friends know little about the role of SAT’s in college admissions. Also, since when is a 2320 not competitive?

My pet peeve is when people give you their superscored SAT score along with their one-sitting composite :P

But that’s because I only took the test once.

And I’m agreeing with the OP.

A 2320 is a fine score, and a good enough score for admissions, assuming you’re awesome in other ways, but it’s not outstanding.

Colleges could honestly care less about differences in your score when you’re in the 2300+ range. At that range, you’re obviously a very capable candidate, whether you scored a 2370 or a 2320.

And don’t be delusional, a 2320 is an outstanding score. Being in the top .2% of all SAT takers is incredible.

I use to always experience the same type of thing, “you can go where ever you want” because of my GPA, now I get it because of my SAT score, and honestly its quite annoying, although I do wish it was that easy :)

I have the exact same experiences as you fledgling. When I got a 35 on the ACT, everyone told me “Oh, well you can just get in wherever you want to!” And now, with the 2400, if I tell someone I got a 2400 on the SAT they say “what is it out of again?” Very frustrating. Since the ACT is so popular here, they see a 35 as better than a perfect on the SAT.

@ lidusha: My point exactly, which is why I’m so annoyed whenever this comment comes up! >.<‘’ …though I thought most of the Ivies (including MIT) consider your highest scores in each section and would thus consider mine as a 2350?

I’m banking on them looking at superscored, I also got a 2320 but much better superscored. Although if I was an admissions person, I think I wouldn’t consider a superscore as “good”…
But I totally agree, i want to tell people there’s still room for improvement and no, I cannot get into “any school I want” but they just scoff :p

Hey what s ‘superscore’??

@lidusha a score of 2300 or higher is extremely hard to attain, according to collegeboard percentiles it is a 99+, meaning that less than 1% of the nation scores that high, usually only about 3,000 students out of 1.5 million test takers score that high every year. And schools like MIT and Harvard have 15,000-27,000 applicants. So it is an outstanding score, and competitive at any level.

Ah yes. Constantly in my life I’ve been plagued by people telling me “Your scores are excellent!” in disbelief, while I privately find myself thinking “My scores suck”. Example: When I got asked about my SAT scores on Friday (the one that just passed) and I said: 660 CR, 800M, 800W, and then said “but I’m disappointed with my CR, I wanted a 700” - people would literally want to hit me. Now, I’m no fool, and I know my grades are excellent, and they do not get you into any college you want (another point that annoys me when people say it) a 700 may not help me, but there’s a chance a 660 might hurt me, which is why I wanted a 700.

At any rate, I have a small pet peeve, aside from people thinking that good grades get you into any college you want - and this has nothing to do with college admissions - but I dislike it when people argue with me about cameras. I’ve researched cameras since my childhood, probably, and whenever someone tells me that “its megapixels are so low! it’s such a horrible camera!” when its megapixel count is 5 or 8.1MP - I just hate it. What I hate more is when I say “megapixels =/= quality” and everyone’s like: “Yes it is” and then I’d say: “I’ve researched cameras my whole life!” and then, stubbornly, they still wouldn’t accept. It’s just nuts. MP =/= quality. Some of the best cameras I’ve seen had a very low megapixel count and their quality was excellent. 5MP is way too large for any kind of web use, anyway. Unless it’s for printing HQ posters, which I doubt because you’d know what kind of camera to get and what MPs are if you were doing that, then 5 MP is enough. Aside from that, it’s the quality of the picture you should check.

Sorry for the rant  Just had to get it out there.

agreed. i retook a 690 when i was perfectly satisfied with my scores in the other 2 sections, even though a lot of people (at my school) thought that I shouldnt

hey guys in this thread

u can go to any college u want

kthxbai

Seriously though, those scores are fantastic. Have fun in a fancy college, should you choose.
