Pete Carroll is a Class Act

Yeah, we may have lost tonight's game, but that doesn't mean the Trojans are a bad team or Matt and Reggie are now to be considered less valuable or talented. Everyone has good games and bad games, and at least our winning streak ended with a fantastic team like Texas and not like... the Bruins or something.

Main points: 1) Pete is great. He's classy and was very respectful and stood head held high even among defeat. He didn't badmouth and he didn't even refrain from admitting that the Longhorns did very well. I couldn't dream of a better coach than Pete, both in his coaching and in his conduct.

2) Matt and Reggie are still THE Heisman Trophy Winners. Vince Young is amazing, but he didn't get the Heisman. As they say, from now everytime Matt and Reggie are mentioned in the press, they'll have "Heisman winner" mentioned along with their names. Vince Young doesn't have that.

3) It was a close game. It wasn't a blowout win for Texas.

I'm still proud to be a Trojan. ANYONE who tries to badmouth and put down USC even after this loss will still NEVER have the history that our team does.

YEah....ummmm

National Champs > Heisman....any day

"YEah....ummmm

National Champs > Heisman....any day"

Yeah umm... "National Champs"= a title kept a YEAR until the NEXT National Championship.

"Heisman"- a title kept FOREVER.

Get it?

Pete Carrol is great, but seriously, Texas won. That's that.

Heisman trophy is for one persone. National championship is for the whole team

I'm sure Pete Carroll has learned from this game how vulnerable his defense can be. He's definitely going to work harder in the off-season to reinforce it.

I guess Pete Carrol won't be a Michael Vick fan for a while either. I can see why he used three lineman, but that just create more room for Vince Young to scramble. I know a beefy lineman won't catch Young, but atleast he would occupy the availiable running space and won't get pan-cake block by the linemen.
I think the recruiting would be just fine. Normally it would devastate alot of coaches, but I think the way he is handling it speaks volume for the type of program it is.

I really do not like Matt. Reggie I admire because he didn't lose his cool when he wasn't chosen to run every play in his last game, did decently, didn't badmouth (like Matt "were still the better team"), and he is a great player overall.

Heisman (had it been chosen after the Rose bowl) would almost surely go to Vince after than amazing performance.

Texas won, but it was damn close (freakin pino missed 4 total points). The USC coach handled the loss well, and matt did not.

Yeah I'm a UCLA student and I'll admit, i have the UTMOST respect for Pete Carroll and I love my friends at SC. I also think SC is still the best team...TALENT wise. Perhaps Matt Leinart's reaction doesn't reflect the team's overall character and personality. (though no matter HOW BITTER he was about ending his college career on that note, he should still watch what he was says but whatever)...

Let's just say I've had the pleasure of observing the Longhorns in a non game setting and they are definitely gentlemen and carry themselves well. They also were positive about winning....in a non arrogant way. They just have SO much heart, character, determination, and that must be hard when you're in So-Cal for a week preceding the game and being approached by people everywhere who are like "how does it feel to be second place."

LoL and the poor things had to deal with crap last year when everyone over here (though less passionately) was liek "Uh Cal should be here not you."

Even still people are like "well it wasn't Texas, it was just Vince"...yeah that's right, without Vince, they would have never gotten to this point or won....but he DEFINITELY couldn't have beat a whole team of Trojans on his own LoL. Even if UT doesn't have any other stars everyone knows by name, a lot of aspects of their team are overlooked. They did AMAZING as a TEAM defensively.

Hmmph. I love the Longhorns. And I love the state of Texas haha they helped in the REAL important game...(the presidential election)---that was the political excuse I scrambled for when explaining to the SC fans in my family why I checked my Cali/Pac 10 pride at the door just for this game. Not to mention I'm a Bruin. But I won't relish in SC's defeat until my school finally beats it. :) and the day will come...I'm patient. :)

in the meantime Congratulations to USC for a fabulous season and legacy. Now that So-Cal has some spotlight, it'll be all the greater when UCLA starts winning. I'm excited for the coming years.

On SportsCenter at the Rose Bowl, the anchors discussed the post-game actions of Matt, Reggie, and Pete Carroll. They talked about how Matt and Reggie went straight to the Texas locker room to congratulate the team on winning the game and also how Pete Carroll waited on the USC side of the field for Mack Brown to walk over and shake hands with him. Yes, Pete Carroll took it well, but perhaps not for the first few minutes after the game ended. Yes, Matt might have let a couple words slip...maybe he wasn't thinking clearly through the agony of defeat. But he got his head on straight and handled the rest of it with some class. Maybe we can't judge people just by one action.

Its been a great run. There were other games this season and last season USC could have lost. Take joy in what has been been accomplished. No team wins forever.

I agree. I'm proud of my team and how well they played, and trying to use their example for how to act. I don't blame Matt for what he said. Heck, I yelled at most of my family when they were trying to comfort me after the game. I'm glad we have had such a great few years, and I sort of look forward to watching the team rebuild. I'm also glad I wasn't on campus when we lost, it would have hurt too much. Now I don't have to dread that moment next year.

Tsdad-you are correct.

Many hospital co-workers told me today they were sorry. I said thanks, but we couldn't win forever and Vince Young was certainly a good player. I couldn't watch the after game stuff, but I am not surprised that Pete Carroll continued to show class. Now we will see the true fans-not just those who want to be with the winner. I live in UC, Cal State, community college land. I was shocked that the local grocery store was carrying USC clothes, there wasn't any USC stuff 2 yrs ago. One co-worker told me she was happy Texas won because she went to UCLA, I was sad to hear her comment. I only want UCLA to lose when they play USC.
I think I will dust off my alumni stuff and start wearing it again-proudly.

I get a lot of nice comments here in Badgerland when I wear my USC stuff. I even ran across a young man wearing a USC t-shirt whose father had taken him to USC games for a decade before they moved to Wisconsin.

Look... Give Texas their props. They beat us and they deserve to have their time in the sun. That doesnt mean that we have to stop appreciating Matt, Reggie and the rest of our Trojans!

As for Matt being "classless"... thats just complete BS! He was a very upset and emotional kid seeing as how he just lost his final college game - and it was the ROSE BOWL for the National Championship... It is not classless... just not well-advised. You can say the EXACT same thing about Vince Young after the Heisman ceremony!!!
