Petition for Extra Semester?

On the L&S site it says one must appeal to the Dean to extend enrollment for another semester (9th semester for 4-yrs and 5th semester for transfers) but that this is only granted under exceptional circumstances. If one cannot finish all of their major requirements on time despite attending full-time would that normally be accepted in a petition? For those wondering, I declared a major really late and it will be difficult to graduate on time without being lucky and getting into all of my required classes.

Also, if an extra semester is granted, am I also allowed to utilize the summer in addition to the following fall semester?

Thanks

You will be over 130 units after completing 8 semesters?

[Office of Undergraduate Advising: Unit Ceiling](http://ls-advise.berkeley.edu/registration/unitceiling.html)

Yes, I checked the unit ceiling and I probably will be over 130 only because I probably cannot afford to attend less than full-time because it affects my FA (although I’m not sure to what extent it affects it).

That unit ceiling web page does say this:

Game, how many units do you have from summer session or extension? Those don’t apply to the 130 ceiling.

Are you absolutely sure units from summer session don’t count towards the unit ceiling? Because if they don’t, it would actually keep me under 130 units and allow me to enroll in another semester.

Summer units do count to the unit ceiling unless they are otherwise deductible (they are not listed here: [Office of Undergraduate Advising: Deductible Units](http://ls-advise.berkeley.edu/registration/deductible.html) ), but you are allowed to take courses in the summer even if you have reached the unit ceiling, as described in the other link.

^I’ve emailed L&S about that a long time ago, they told me summer units don’t count to the ceiling
