Petition to make USC a 'CC Top University' !

As you all know, USC is not listed as one of the 'CC TOP Universities' and after a long time of complaints from various posters here on CC, I believe it is time to do something about it.

Therefore I want to start this petition to make the CC Admins realize their fault and finally add us to the list. Although it is long overdue, and there have been other post about this, let's all go together now and finally make this happen.

Here are some facts that I have picked up from different threads to assist in proving the point.

This shows that only UCLA, UCB and Stanford have more posts/topics(and UMICH which only has more topics) than USC. Though I can agree that post count/# of topics does not mean a school is the best, it clearly shows that there is a huge amount of interest in USC and that it is a very popular school. Not to mention it has been ranked as one of the US Dream Schools. Furthermore, the USC 2009 transfer thread is at 1099 pages which also shows the popularity of USC.

Also, according to rankings at USNWR, EVERY school up until USC(ranked 27), is listed as 'CC Top Universities'(except for the Ivy League schools which have their own group). This would be unfair enough, if it was just having a 'cut-off' right before USC, when it is obviously one of the most popular schools on here. However, it gets worse...

University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill (UNC-CH) which is both lower ranked than USC and has A LOT less posts/topics(less than half) IS on this list! Basically, a University with less popularity, and lower ranking than USC is deemed to be more fit to be on the 'CC Top Universities' list than USC. This is seriously ridiculous! An outrage even.

It is time to give USC the place it deserves in the CC TOP Universities Folder. Please CC, you know that it is right, so do it.

So please, join me in this petition and make the admins realize and change this.

Post something along the lines of 'seconded' , 'i agree' or whatever.. and if you have additional facts to help the cause, feel free to add them.

Again, I have gathered all of this info from various other posts on this forum and merely put them together/updated them. I thank all of you brilliant posters.

Fight On!

Secondedd.

I approve of and support this cause.

…i agree…

Agreed.

I hate the 10 character rule.

Same here. Agree!

 1. UNC is a stronger university than USC and deserves its spot on the list. UNC has been in the top 30 since USNWR began and has been ranked as high as #9. Its average rank is 24. USC didn’t even make it into the 20s until 2007. Its average rank is 34.

With a peer assessment score of 3.9, USC falls behind all of the CC Top Universities and several universities that don’t make the cut.

The CC Top Universities list has been the same since the forum was started in 2001. USC (#35) was far behind the other top universities in the list.

NYU with 70K+ posts would also qualify if you based it on popularity.

I agree 110%

I have personally sent e-mails to Mr. Dooley to request this – nicely  – but have had no response. Hope the immense volume of posts will convince him this is warranted. THANKS for taking the initative.

IBclass06 -

 1. well theyre lower ranked than USC is now, so shouldnt that be what matters? and in my opinion, if there is a tight race between universities rankings wise, then CC popularity should be the decisive factor.

2/3. well i am talking about the USNWR rankings, and also the popularity on this site… after all, cars were made to make us travel faster, warm clothes to make us warmer… we adjust to what is needed and it is quite obvious that USC is one of the most popular universities, so therefore it should have an upper hand…

well NYU is also ranked lower in USNWR, it is at spot 33. i dont disagree that popularity wise, it should be in the cc top univs, but the fact is that, ALL the univs on the list until USC are on the list, and they cut it off there if you look at the rankings, and then UNC(#30)

also, thanks guys for the support! :)

Is making USC on CC Top University a convenience issue? Or is it a matter of importance to persuade the rest of the community that USC is a top university when most people outside of CA do not have a clue as to its significance in Academia. Seriously, USC is only as noteworthy as its sport programs and proximity to downtown LA.

agree 10char

Yes, US News Week Rankings was paid off by Pete Caroll in order to get us higher in the rankings :). Didn’t you know? That’s how we do it at SC, the coincidental increase in the amount of national top scorers, olympians, and position in all university rankings is COMPLETELY negligible and totally not an indication of one of the most diverse and increasingly improving student bodies. That world famous alumni network is a complete myth too btw.

As convenient as it would be, I’m starting to enjoy not being the only university in the top, I feel like it might prevent people like babyd from coming to our board and potentially even attending SC. I would hate to start going to school with people who believe that apparently national recognition for academia is impossible to accrue if you are good at sports and close to a major city. Who knew, especially with schools like UNC, UCLA, Vanderbilt and Emory possessing the same traits.

However, I support this just because I’m tired of having to click through the links and I don’t wanna bookmark our page, but this has been tried before so don’t get too excited :).

UNC isn’t really near a big city. Chapel Hill is pretty much a small college town.

Anyways, I totally agree with this thread and USC should be on the CC top universities.

Yeah right, everyone knows about USC.

I definitely agree.

Right after I saw the redesign of the website (new colors), I quickly checked to see if USC had been moved to a CC Top University. I thought that maybe since they were upgrading their site, they might also revise (correct) that list. I actually had a few seconds of glimmering hope thinking that the CC admins might actually have a heart and a brain. But of course, there was no such change. What was I thinking?

USC IS a CC Top University and SHOULD be noted as such. But after seeing Mr. Dooley’s blantantly biased thread, I see there is too much resentment from the administrators here for that ever to happen. It must really bug them to see the overwhelming popularity of USC.

I agree, USC deserves the spot. Maybe even NYU as well.

What have the administrators said so far on this issue?

Really hope that this thread will open someone’s eyes at CC to see that they are making themselves look bad by being so unreasonably biased against one school – if they can manipulate the information on this site to suit their own purposes then where is the value in this site?

Agreed 100%!
