Im really leaning towards Marietta after researching some more however as it is it’s going to cost me ~40000 a year (without scholarships or anything). It read somewhere that the average grant is around $17000 would that be towards the total cost of 4 years or reduce the cost of per year to 23000? This is not a final decision but where seems best for me at the moment.

Average grant doesn’t mean you’ll be eligible for that grant. Run the EFC calculator to see what you will be getting specifically, don’t depend on some average number and think you’ll be getting that.

*My family isn’t rich but to get through college they would sell an asset like our extra house in Turkey. However I’m expected to pay them back for about 70% of it. *

Are you an int’l student?

Does Marietta give aid (or much aid) to int’l students?

It says this:

83% of Marietta students receive need-based financial aid; the average package is over $27,500. (this would be a mix of grants, scholarships, loans, work-study.)

91% of freshmen & transfers receive some form of financial aid.

To be considered for need-based grants, loans, and employment opportunities, students must:

Be admitted to the College

File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Be sure to send Marietta your aid information. Our FAFSA number is 003073.

even if the school does give need-based aid to int’ls, your family’s income and assets would be considered…so the “average” given means nothing to you. You might get nothing…even if the avg is high.

Edited to add…the school doesnt give need-based aid to int’ls.

*Limited merit-based international student scholarships, in the range of $2,500 - $10,000, are available for students who have demonstrated academic excellence. These scholarships are renewable annually provided the student maintains the required grade point average.

Marietta College does not offer need-based financial aid to international students.*

However, if you’re a US citizen or green card holder and qualify for aid, then you might get a nice award. That said, that home in Turkey is an asset that will get counted.

Keep in mind that EFC calculators are often not accurate for schools which give non automatic merit aid. As Marietta is a tuition dependent private I’d imagine that it practices significant price discounting for wealthier students, which will be apparent in the admission letter, not the EFC calculator.

I was born/raised in US but I’m first generation my whole family is from Turkey so I’m not sure how much help that is.

For most of the PetE schools other than perhaps Stanford, it doesn’t as far as admissions go. For financial aid purposes, it does make a big difference since you’re more likely to be offered both merit and federal loans.

As far as starting salaries students in the upper portion of their graduating class can expect to receive a salary in the $90,000+ range in most cases. The top students at my school this year who have job offers so far have offers for $100,000-105,000. Most also have $20,000 to $30,000 signing bonuses attached to their offers.

The students at the bottom of the class (no internships usually as well) are receiving offers for $70,000-80,000 in most cases.

This is just my experience, but friends at other schools have mentioned similar figures to me.
