Can someone hash out the differences between the programs at these different locations? Thanks for any input.

If you are looking into Petroleum Engineering you should also consider Texas Tech University & Texas A & M. PE is a difficult major to get admitted into, you will want to keep your options wide open should your young one not make it into UT Austin.

Look at U of H and Texas A&M. Both schools have very strong connections to the oil industry. I know where I work now that they hire a lot from U of H just because its so close and its a decent school. Engineers care less about the school you went to and more about your grades and internships.

Thanks for the info.

Proximity is probably the biggest con of the UT Austin program. Unlike many of the others, Austin is not really in oil country. However, it is the flagship of the state system and it is located in the state capital, so it comes with unique opportunities as well.
