I am very interested in Petroleum engineering for my undergraduate degree. Unfortunately the state I live in no schools offer any petroleum engineering degrees. So my plan is to get my AA from a junior college and then transfer to a school that offers a petroleum engineering like University of Texas, Texas A & M, or the Colorado School of Mines. My question is what should I get my Associates degree in example(general engineering, chemical engineering, or mechanical engineering, etc…)?

you can do that.

what im doing myself is just getting my basics out the way, calc/chem/physics then transferring from theme

@youofeh I took honors chem my freshman year of HS and did pretty good in it A/A+. But now I don’t remember anything other than balancing equations because its been so long. Do you think I’ll be okay with it or should I buy a text book and review before college a little?

Spoken like a true Veteran

I think people should consider going to University of Houston for their prospective PetE degree. The program started in 2009 and seems very strong. I live in the city and the job market seems evident all over the city. We have tons of oil companies here such as Exxon, BP, GE, Mustang, National Oilwell/Varco, Baker Hughes, and many more…My late father worked for Baker and NO for his whole life and gave me a lot of insight in the industry.

Do well in school and I doubt you would be jobless in the field you want to end up in.

That is true, UH might not be brand name school, but it is very strong with recruitment and networking. It is also very affordable.

Is the Petroleum Engineer suitable for girls?

It is a huge advantage for a female to LAND a job in the oil and gas industry. Oil and gas companies are over 90% male. Therefore, they are always looking for new female employees to balance out.

However, ONCE you are hired, you are at a disadvantage. There is a lot of sexism and chauvinistic attitudes in the oil and gas industry. Oilmen generally do NOT like being told what to do by females and do NOT like being upstaged by females.

“There is a lot of sexism and chauvinistic attitudes in the oil and gas industry.”

True that.

which one is better for me?
I want to do petroleum engineering
some one told me to do bachelors in mechanical then masters in petroleum
and other one said to do both in petroleum
I cannot afford high fees. In some countries education is free or cheap but there level of education is not up to the mark and they also don’t have BSC petroleum in there course
Kindly guide me
