I recently got admitted into my first choice (due to being one of the three that offer a degree on Petroleum Engineering other than USC and Stanford ) CSU Bakersfield. Since a young age I have always been admired by the career. I just want to know your opinion as if it is a good choice to go there? The program recently started on June 2013, if I am not mistaking. Thank you!

CSUB’s engineering programs are new and seeking ABET accreditation:

It’s awkward that the program is new-- it has no record of being a recruiting ground for oil company summer interns (a chicken & egg dilemma). I would be wary of doing an engineering program in any school that doesn’t have a strong track record for placing summer interns in that discipline. You will be hard pressed to get a job offer from any major oil company w/o having done an internship at one of them, especially in a climate of 5 year record low in oil prices.

Thanks for the reply guys really appreciate it! @GMTplus7, I actually made some research and found out that Bakersfield actually is rich on oil. They have many companies that invested a lot to make the program happen at CSU Bakersfield . But you never know?

If the local companies have invested a lot money in the program, then I expect they will come knocking to reap their investment!
