Petroleum Engineering/Oil & Gas Freshman College Internships

I will be attending Penn State University for Petroleum Engineering and reside in the Pittsburgh region. My main question is how difficult is it to get an internship after freshman year (during the summer)? At companies like MarkWest, Range Resources, Williams, EQT, Shell, Chevron, Cabot, etc....?

I have a linkedin and have 92 connections, my dad works at an oil company, and I knew two head guys that worked at Range and EQT. Do you think it would be hard to land an internship?

Also, I job shadowed a chemical engineer at a major natural gas company and attended live meetings and conferences. would that help?

The best thing that you can do is start now. Use those connections, do not be shy about asking your Dad for help and put together a really good resume using the experience you have job shadowing a chemical engineer and attending live meetings and conferences.

As a freshman, you will be competing with upperclassmen. But try anyway!!
