I have heard that a petroleum engineer can make 200,000 dollars out of college by working in a foreign country. If this is true then i am defiantly entering this field. Are there any things I should know before it becomes a done deal? Also i am curious about chemical engineering degrees and pay. Which is the pros and cons of each? One last problem is that there is no petroleum engineering colleges in california. I really do not want to pay out of state tuition for four years. haha. please any help will be of use.

Basically true on the salary, though beware that “foreign countries” does not mean Italy or Australia. Petroleum engineers go where the oil is, which these days can mean some of the most godforsaken hellholes on earth. Still, the pay is excellent. And regarding instate versus OOS tuition, if you really want to be a petroleum engineer don’t worry about it - your salary will make paying back any loans trivially easy.

I really do not care about working hard for the first decade of my life. It pays well because there are lots of small inconveniences that I do not care about. thanks for the help. I am going for it.
