Petroleum Engineering - What is the field like?

I'm originally from the Bakken area in eastern Montana but I've been doing construction labor work for the last couple years in Boston. I regretfully spent the last few years working low end jobs, undecided on what I wanted to do with my life, trying to save some money up along the way. I'm pretty dead set on moving back to Montana or at least North Dakota and eventually working in the construction or oil industry out that way but I want to go to college before I head out there and get too comfortable procrastinating like I have here.

I'm aware enrollment has increased in petrol engineering. Are job prospects expected to be good in 5+ years?

Would you recommend a bachelor's or master's?

And I've seen a lot of people say you move around a lot. I don't mind moving once within the country, but every 2 or 3 years is too much for me. I want a family and I don't want to pick up and move my kids around. Is moving around a must in this industry or is it optional?
