I have recently become interested in petroleum engineering as a career path, but I go to a school with no engineering program. Is there any way to become a petroleum engineer without getting my bachelors in engineering? what would be the best course of action?

You can be involved in a variety of positions within the oil industry without an engineering degree, but I don’t think you’ll really be able to do what a petroleum engineer might do without that particular degree, a chemE degree, or a mechE degree.

You could always work as a roughneck if you don’t want to take the scholarly approach. I would suggest transferring to a university with a PetE program.

How far along are you? If your not a junior or senior there’s still time.
