petroleum engineering

I need some advice regarding the petroleum engineering program at Texas Tech university, like how it is and what are the prospects, and what the internship opportunities are like, any ideas about from which year can a person start internship ?,I am an international student and i have received an admit from the university and wish to join it in fall 2012.

Texas tech is a great petroleum engineering college. Although it may not be a top school like Austin, it certainly is above average. Texas tech has job fairs in the spring and fall. TT is well recruited by oil companies. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but it is very difficult for international students to get an internship. This is because most US oil companies would rather not go through the process of making it legal for you to work. Finding a job once you graduate from TT may not be possible due to your international student status. Going to a US college will not garantee you will also find a job in the US.

If you expect to have a permanent resident status then you could be ready for an internship as early as the summer before your junior year. Although most get internships the summer before their senior year.
