Petroleum engineering

Okay please don't reply if you don't know what you're talking about .

I'm a junior in high school. I am trying to get into petroleum engineering . I'm going to go to long beach city college (lbcc) to save money and then transfer to cal state long beach . I was wondering if I will be hired coming out of college ? I don't want to be unemployed . Also will jobs be good in this Field in a few years ? My mom said people are going to stop using oil and that it's dumb to go into the business . Also like do you travel a lot ? I wouldn't have a problem with that . Will it be possible to get a job in California or will I most likely have to get a job in houston or overseas ? What type of physical labor would I have to do ? How much would I get paid at first ? If I have to move overseas is everything paid for ? Thanks in advance .

It seems like to be you are only considering petroleum engineering because of its high salaries… Yes, they are paid a lot, and yes there are a lot of jobs for it.

And Cal State Long Beach is ok, but you will have a lot of competition for the top jobs from people who went to schools with higher ratings in the Petroleum Engineering field. As sources dwindle, there could be an even higher need for engineers to get the most of out the supply that remains.

It really sounds like you are not as interested in the field as you are in the money, location and such. Maybe find a field that is more centered in California. Film Studies? :)
