<p>Please do not go into petroleum engineering just because it’s at the top of the starting salary survey - it’s not usually a desk job and often involves field work. Yes, there are aspects that allow you to sit in a nice location and have an ordinary life, but most often PE involves some rather rough and remote work locations. As long as you understand and want that, great, but it’s not a job for most people. They definitely earn every dollar.</p>
