I know i qualify for automatic acceptance into the university BUT i want to know if i can get into the PetE program.

also should i apply on august 1st..does it make a difference?

apply early enough and I would expect you to be admitted to the college of your choice. (I think it is kinda funny that you have a typo on “730 Writeing”… lol)
And yes - it might make a difference, apply as early as you can if you want PetE!

Ditto on what klparker said. PetE majors go very quickly.

^ You can apply in August for the Fall 2011 semester? I also want to be a PetE major. However, I plan on retaking my SATs in October (I got a 2180 on my first one; :frowning: bleh) and SAT Math IIc (720 ; never using a number 2 pencil again; it smudged and left so many damn stray marks) and Physics in November. Also, I’m planning on joining JETS and participating in some competitions in my senior year. So when I apply, they won’t see any of those.

I want to get into Honors and get that OOS tuition waiver. Is it a good idea to apply on August 1st?

Please do not retake that 2180. That’s just crazy ridiculous. You have wayyy great enough stats for A&M to get some scholarships and into Honors. And yes, apply ASAP starting August 1st or whenever Applytexas opens.

^
Wait, my transcript might change a bit and I have to wait till September to get it. And after I submit the application, can I still submit my SAT I/II scores? Can I still add on to the application the clubs I’ll be joining senior year if I apply in August?

The application will be available on Applytexas on August 1st. But is that only for the Spring 2011 semester?

Honors for sure no doubt. But for scholarship purposes I would take it one more time just to be safe if you are certain that you can do better.

^ Thanks. I really appreciate it. So how should I sort this out though? Should I still apply in August? Do they accept scores and senior EC’s after you submitted the application?

That is a really good question…

if i apply, get accepted, but retake an SAT or whatever can i send it in (in like November or December) for scholarships??

I believe as long as you get the score reported to them before the deadline then you can update that. I would check to be sure though.

Is it a good idea to double major in both geophysics and petroleum engineering for undergrad?

Unless you are just really interested in the subject and want to take more classes. Otherwise, no, the double major is a bad idea. Even in a field like that, double majoring in engineering is essentially pointless unless you are doing it out of interest – engineering employers will not give you a one up for it.

Do not plan to graduate in 4 years if you plan on that double major unless you are willing to do extensive summer school work.
Here’s the newest course curriculum for both petE and geophysics.

Not to hijack a thread but I was wondering what’s the typical acceptance rate of an out-of-state applicant? I’m a rising senior at a competitive private school in Louisiana. I’m ranked 13/166, have a 27 for my ACT, have taken the hardest track available all four years, maintained a 4.0 weighted GPA (3.6 unweighted), and have played soccer every year lettering 3. I’m active in my school with student council and other organizations, but will not list for the sake of abbreviation. Thanks everyone I’ve searched forever on this and hadn’t found any concise info.

^^ and ^^^ Thanks, I probably won’t double major, but I’ll think about it more once I actually attend a a place for undergrad.

Darn it I’m thinking about taking AP Psych, Micro, and possibly Macro because I simply don’t want to have to deal with those University Core Curriculum requirements.

^ It shouldn’t be that hard to get in oos. They have a 67% acceptance rate. The only reason 22% of the population is oos is because they either don’t know about it or don’t want to defray the cost of oos tuition (rough estimates from naviance: OOS tuition: $19,585, in-state tuition: $5,152).

a few stats:
Freshman Applications:
Received: 22969
Accepted: 15369
Percent accepted: 66.91%
Enrolled: 8104

ACT Comined:
High: 30 Low: 24 Avg: 27
ACT English:
High: 29 Low: 24 Avg: 26
ACT Math:
High: 30 Low: 23 Avg: 26
SAT Combined:
High: 1940 Low: 1610 Avg: 1775
SAT I Math:
High: 670 Low: 560 Avg: 615
SAT I Critical Reading:
High: 630 Low: 520 Avg: 575

High: higher than 75% of all applicants
Avg: higher than 50% of all applicants
Low: higher than 25% of all applicants

Sorry, I can’t give you any data on the GPA, but you can definitely get in.

You have a good chance in my opinion, Thomas.

Thanks everyone I appreciate it

One more question, how hard is it to be accepted into their engineering program, especially the PetE program?

It all depends on when you apply. The earlier you get your application in the better chances you have because there is a quota of students that each discipline will take in each year. I would apply by late september or early october to have the best chances. After that, your chances will go down each month that you wait.

^ Wait ApplyTexas doesn’t use the Common App. Can I get like some sort of fee waiver for the $60? Btw, I didn’t use that fee waiver thing for the SATs (junior year) because I simply did not know there was one. But, I definitely qualify for that waiver. It really is a lot to pay, at least from my financial status.

I mean it’s not impossible to get into petE, and like aGGieENGiNeeR said, they sooner you apply the better. Their office told me the same thing. You have a shot at petE.
