Pets at Columbia?

So exactly... HOW ****ed would Columbia be if I brought a puppy into my dorm room? I know a lot of people who have rabbits and cats who haven't been caught, but what exactly happens if you do get caught with a pet?

Just wondering...

Thanks!

no pets are officially allowed and I think you do get in trouble if you possess a pet, rabits and cats can be silent (relatively), is your dog mute? how will you take it for walks? the RA is going to notice and can’t really feign ignorance if it gets out, so will ask you to keep the pup at home.

A dog is pushing in. I’ve seen rabbits and cats.

yeahh… i mean, i would definitely take it on walks like at riverside or something. and it would be a tiny little dog. haha i dunno. just something i’m considering

It’s kind of cruel to keep a dog in one little room all day with nothing to do but wait for you to come home from class. At the very least you’re in for some torn pillows and puddle of *. They get pretty restless. (Unlike cats who we can agree are lazy, arrogant *ers)

Plus you have to think about the risk. ONE person reports and you have to get rid of it. Best case scenario you can ship it to a family member; worst case…well, you know what happens in the gas room.

Volunteer at the UWS shelter if you really want to pet some puppies.

Yeah, poor dog to be stuck in the dorm all day.

By the way, getting caught with a non-approved pet in your room means you are violating the housing agreement and worst case that means you get kicked out of housing.

How are you going to get it in/out of the dorm without being caught??

It’s obvious you haven’t really thought this through.

why would your dog want to live in a tiny room all day?

Your perspective is wrong. You don’t understand why Columbia would be angry with you having a tiny/cute accessory in your room. But it’s not that. It’s an animal. Keeping a live animal in a dorm room is cruel.

Especially, when considering the consequence. If caught, do you think they’ll let you keep it until you can make another arrangement? Or, more likely, will they put in the very incapable hands of the ASPCA?

I am posting this separately - for emphasis.

THIS KIND OF IRRESPONSIBLE PET OWNERSHIP MAKES MY SKIN CRAWL.

Surprised nobody has made reference to Elle Woods.

^^Yeah don’t do it, especially in your first year. I know people who lived in suites (in EC or Woodbridge, or Watt, or wherever) as upperclassmen where there was a lot more space and they kept doggies. Little ones. Still though, it’s kinda cruel.

I had this ridiculous experience my junior (or senior?) year where i was in the EC gym and this girl was on the bike next to me. She was wearing this bulky sweatshirt, and the next thing I know is she pulls a little Yorkie out from under it. She was working out with a dog in her lap. ***?

^^^ haha that’s crazy
