Pft

I know I've asked this before, but I was wondering EXACTLY what the initial PFT for application is, and what the final PFT your 1st class year.

The CFA (Candidate Fitness Assessment) consists of a kneeling basketball throw (you get three tries and they take the best one,) pullups in two minutes, shuttle run (sprints, I believe it is best of two tries,) situps in two minutes, pushups in two minutes and a mile run.

At Summer Seminar we took the PFT also and it consisted of max pushups in two minutes, max situps in two minutes, being able to sit and touch your toes, and a 1.5 mile run.

Start working on your pull-ups now. My son could only do 7 at summer seminar :D. He worked all summer on his pull-ups and was able to max out the next time he took his CFA.

Yea thats great advice, pullups are something you get can really good at. I bought a pullup bar for the door to my room and did pullups every other day(not good to lift the same way every day) for about a month leading up to NASS, and did 15 on the CFA. But for all you skinny trackletes out there like me, I would recommend working on the basketball throw alot, because darn those football players and their ease with that, lol, i really struggled.

yeah, pullups were hard for me too. there are some really good workout plans to get in shape for the PFT that I did so if i can find them I'll post them again i'll post the links.

PRT stands for Physical Readiness Test. It is taken every sememster and consists of 2:00 of push ups, 2:00 of sit ups, a 1.5 mile run, and a sitting toe touch.

<a href="http://www.comilstd.org/Navy_PRT.htm%5B/url%5D">http://www.comilstd.org/Navy_PRT.htm</a></p>

CFA stands for Candidate Fitness Assessment which is designed to asses the fitness of a candidate (never saw that coming did you?). It is taken at NASS (if you go) or can be taken multiple times prior to appointment. It consists of a 1 mile run, 2:00 of push ups, 2:00 of sit ups, kneeling basketball throw, pull ups (male) or flexed arm hang (females...one pull up counts for more than infinite time on the flexed arm hang by the way), and a shuttle run.

My son is in the same boat as you. Can run like the wind, but no upper body strength..............at all. After he got comfortable with the number o fpullups he was able to do, he started working on the b-ball throw. Still didn't do wonderful, but good enough, I guess.
