pg. 660 SAT Practice Test #5

Nearly all of the editors of the magazine agree that of the two articles to be published, Fujimura’s is the more exciting.

I think the answer should be D. The sentence is incorrect because of the word ‘the’ before ‘more exciting.’

An article will have to be followed by a noun. For example, you wouldn’t say, ’ Of the two brothers Tom and Matt, Tom is the taller.’ You could say though ’ Of the two brothers Tom and Matt, Tom is taller.’

The word taller would have to be followed by a noun such as ‘one’ or ‘brother’ because of the word ‘the.’

If the sentence had been given without ‘the’ then it would have been correct as shown below

Nearly all of the editors of the magazine agree that of the two articles to be published, Fujimura’s is more exciting.

College Board please respond ASAP. My son is due to take the SAT in January 2016, and I would not not want him to get a question such as this marked wrong.

College Board does not respond on College Confidential.

And page 660 of what???

Page 660 of blue book, the Official Guide I assume.
“the” is there because the comparison is between two objects.
No noun is necessary after the comparative.
Here is the correct usage:

She is the taller of the two sisters.
She is the tallest of the three sisters.
