pg year

im considering applying for a pg year at several boarding schools, and was wondering if any of you could offer insight into the pg experience. from what ive heard pgs are often associated with being star athletes. i am into several sports but am definitely not going to get recruited in college, and even as a pg at boarding school i would probably be on the jv team considering how many strong athletes there are at these schools. would a student who is only moderately athletic fit in well as a pg? i understand that the vast majority of pgs are there for athletics, but i am considering a pg year for academic and personal reasons. ive always wanted to go to boarding school, and actually applied in ninth grade but was unfortunately rejected. my transcript is less than impressive, and my test scores are decent. ive always dreamt of attending colleges like yale or georgetown, but im certain that i will not be accepted due to my grades. doing well academically this year will show colleges that ive become focused and gotten my priorities in line. please let me know if you think a pg year would be good for me. thanks for the advice.

bump…any advice would be appreciated.

There is a book called “the complete guide to the gap year” by kristin white, which has a big section on the PG year which might be helpful to you.
