Ph.D. chances at UMich, MSU

Hey, everyone. I'll be a senior at the University of Michigan next year, and I'm looking for some input on graduate school chances for a Ph.D. in history. I'm yet to take the GRE, so although that's obviously a major part of any application please focus on the rest for now. I was an economics major for some time, which brought my GPA down quite a bit before I switched to history. Anyway, here are my stats:

Current school: University of Michigan
Major: History
GPA overall: 3.5
GPA in major: 3.8
Letters of recommendation: Two promised so far. (Calculus and history professors)
Work experience: Unrelated to history, but I've worked 30 hours per week since my senior year of high school

I know the less-than-stellar GPA is a bit of an issue, but what are my chances at getting into graduate school here at Michigan? And if not here, what about MSU? Also, what might be some other schools that I might have a decent shot at getting into? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I wonder whether UMI really wants internal applications… history is known to be a field that doesn’t like internal PhD apps.

However, MSU is doable.

Good point. Thanks :)

Are there any other schools that might be worth applying to? How about W&M?
