Where do I stand for the following Pharmacy schools:
Rutgers
Pitt
Duquesne
UConn
Ohio St
Wilkes
-Michigan(reach ik)
-UNC (reach ik)

any ideas on other schools? (not interested in specialized schools like USP)

You've got a great resume, but since your applying to large state schools, your lower SATs are going to bring you down a bit. But let's just figure that you study hard for them and get a 2000 on your next try.

Here's the schools you have listed, in the order of what your chances are of being accepted:

Wilkes- safety
Duquesne- high safety
UConn- high safety
Rutgers- high safety
Ohio St- high safety/match
Pitt- match
UNC- reach
Michigan- reach

I would still apply to Michigan and UNC, you never know. But I think Pitt would be a great school for you, they have one of the best pharmacy programs in the country. If you could get your SAT up, you would be a lock. Unless you get into a toptop school, the value of staying in-state at a great program like Pitt far outweighs that of any other school. If you get it high enough, you could even get some serious financial aid.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

i think if you raise your SAT scores, all these schools will be within match/safety for you.

Michigan and UNC (esp. OOS) are huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge reaches. I think you'll get into all of the others, but I dont know about entrance for Pharm programs.

University of Houston has a reputable Pharmacy school, plus it's like the ultimate safety.

lol UConn pharmacy is a slight reach....sorry

I talked to an admissions rep from Uconn in person three weeks ago at a college fair and he said i'd be in without a doubt..and that was when my sat score was 160 pts lower

Haha, stick with me, ValleyView08. I actually know what I'm talking about.

time will tell..... ;-)

anyone else have any input?

Since when do UNC and Michigan have pharmacy programs you can enter out of High School?

Wisconsin a match with very good pharm program. More well-rounded than any of the others on your list except UM and UNC which are similar.

anyone else--im visiting pitt and duquense on monday

ValleyView08, UConn's undergraduate pharmacy program is very competitive, and my understanding is that it's significantly harder for out-of-state students. That math score in particular needs to go up. And to be honest, no admissions officer worth their salt ever tells a student something like that, particularly on a first encounter in an informal setting. That's a stupid move on their part, and hopefully they will learn how to be better at their job.

You've taken several science courses, which is good, but only biology and chemistry will help you in trying to get into that program. I'm assuming both were labs? Can you possibly take a second chemistry course instead of physics? Be sure to do well in calculus.

Your high school course selection seems to contain a lot of elective-style courses (though maybe they're not elective for you -- are you at a vo-tech?), and you are missing some of the courses UConn really likes to see (government jumps out immediately). Just something to keep in mind.

I'm not saying not to apply by any means. You probably have a good shot. I'm just saying I wouldn't consider them to be a lock for that particular program. In-state students with better records get knocked out of contention pretty regularly. And, keep in mind that you're not officially in the program until your junior year; you have to reapply as a sophomore to gain acceptance.

I don't want to come off as curt, but pharmacy schools don't care about your high school performance at all. I had a 2.3 GPA in high school and failed a whole bunch of classes my senior year. I just tried way harder in undergrad, got good grades, and got into pharmacy school. They ONLY look at your college record. Unless it's one of those direct-from-high-school institutions, of course.

So what you need to look for is an undergraduate school where you are the most comfortable and can get the best GPA. It doesn't matter which one. Of the schools you listed, I'm sure you can get into many of them. Don't discount a good community college, either. Pharmacy school admin people are less sticklers for only admitting people from big name schools that you would think. In fact, I was admitted from a community college. Oh, and one last thing, when it comes time to apply to real pharmacy school - in-state school are way easier to get into...keep that in mind 3 or 4 years down the road when you will be applying.

About what school you want to go to insofar as actual pharmacy school is concerned, it really doesn't matter. Pharmacy schools are roughly all the same. There are some BS rankings out there that don't correlate that well with reality...so don't trust them. However, if you want my opinion, I'll give it.

What part of PA? If you are in the Western part, check out Pitt, Ohio State, and WVU - they are the best in that region. Duquesne is average, but good, as is LECOM. That said, the differences really are pretty minor.

If you are over in the Eastern part of PA, Temple, Rutgers, VCU, and Philly COP are good choices.

I'm from eastern Pa just outside of Scranton..I'd rather shy-away from the Philadelphia schools if possible...Rough Winds--I am taking the hardest courses offered at my school so I'm not sure why you are asking if I'm vo-tech

What about the pharmacy school at the University of Missouri-Kansas City? That's where my dad went to pharmacy school :>)

Huh...I rather like Philadelphia. Though I do admit, the area around Temple DOES scare the bejeesus out of me.

How about you tell me what you are interested in, what you are looking for, etc.

ValleyView08: My apologies. You have some courses that would be considered vo-tech in my area (Wood Shop, Gourmet Foods, Computer Apps, Driving). That was my only reason for asking.
